# What to Do When You Encounter a 429 Error

If Codex, Claude Code, or another client displays:

exceeded retry limit, last status: 429 Too Many Requests
```

It means the client tried several times, encountered usage limits each time, and then stopped retrying.

This English message alone cannot identify the exact cause. Common causes include exhausted quota, too many requests in a short period, or too many tasks running at the same time.

If your quota is exhausted, you need to wait for it to refresh, top up, or upgrade your plan. If too many requests were made in a short period, pausing for 1 minute will usually resolve it.

## Do This First

1. Pause the current task to prevent the client from retrying repeatedly.
2. Open the 4AICode [usage page](/usage) to check your plan quota, 24-hour quota, and wallet balance.
3. Check the in-site notifications in the top-right corner of the console.
4. Users who have linked Telegram can also check reminders sent by the Bot.

Follow the instructions shown on the page:

## When Does Today's Quota Reset?

Reset times vary by plan:

- Monthly plans: Reset daily at 8:00 AM Beijing Time.
- Weekly plans: Reset every 24 hours starting from the time of purchase. The exact time is shown on the [usage page](/usage).

Even if your account still has total plan quota remaining, you may encounter an exhausted daily or current 24-hour quota. Daily limits are used to control usage within a single day.

If you urgently need to continue, you can upgrade your plan or top up on the [billing page](/billing). After enabling “Use wallet balance when subscription quota is insufficient,” the system can automatically use your wallet balance instead.

## Too Many Requests Within One Minute

When many tasks are started in a short period, all tasks share the organization's request rate.

To resolve this:

1. Pause for 1 minute.
2. Reduce the number of simultaneously running tasks to 1–3.
3. Reduce the frequency of automatic refreshes and batch tasks.
4. Run the task again.

Creating more keys will still share the limits of the entire organization.

## Too Many Tasks Running at the Same Time

When a task is generating long content, it continuously occupies a running slot. Starting multiple Codex, Claude Code, or batch tasks at the same time may result in a “request is busy” error.

In this case, close some tasks, wait 10–30 seconds, and then restart them one at a time. Repeatedly clicking retry will make the wait longer.

## Still Don't Know the Cause?

Do not send your 4AICode key, Telegram Bot key, password, or login verification code.

When contacting customer support, please provide:

- The approximate time when the error occurred
- The model you were using at the time
- The error message, or a screenshot with sensitive information redacted
- The error ID (`trace_id`) shown on the page, if available

Providing the error ID alone is sufficient; you do not need to include the request content.
